Sacred Movement and Dance: Shakti Rowan and Naraya

Following the spark of our bodies desire to dance, move, share stories, visions and song we will... practice listening and opening to the sacred movements all around us. The wind lyrically spins us open, the crackling fire sends up a prayer, the flowing water undulates through our blood, the earth grounds and centers us through our feet, our spirit carries us into blissful conection to all beings.

We will practice finding our own dance and sharing it with the world. We will learn some community circle dances and moving prayers to bring with us to the fire at night. Bring an open mind and be ready to move your body! Live music welcome!

Naraya:

Naraya started her Middle Eastern dance training over ten years in Oregon where she first glimpsed the beautiful and powerful tribal style of Gypsy Caravan. After having performed cabaret professionally for over seven years, the draw of tribal's trademark improvisational group style as well as the funk of new fusion styles proved too much for her, and began her tribal dance training in earnest.

To date, Naraya has performed at some of the most sought after venues and events in NYC including: Lincoln Center, the UN, International Cultural Day Parade for the Egyptian Embassy, on the set of popular independent movies such as Copsa Mica, the hit TV show - Rescue Me with Dennis Leary, as well as many others.

Naraya has been taking her newest project, Vadalna - a tribal duet with Mimi Fontana - on the road throughout the United States performing tribal-fusion as well as offering sold-out workshops on tribal improvisation, balancing and fusion techniques. Now in its first year, Naraya and Mimi have created Manhattan Tribal - New York's first ATS (American Tribal Style) and fusion student dance troupe.

Naraya is also an avid researcher of the history of Middle Eastern dance, pursuing her MA in the Boston area and hosting regular lectures and demonstrations throughout the United States. As part of her academic journey, Naraya will soon embark on the creation of The Tribal Bible Vol. 2 in collaboration with well known author and dancer Kajira Djoumahna of Black Sheep Belly Dance.
