Spoken Work/Speak Your World: Travis Bowman
Humans are creatures of sound. From a cappella singing to conversation over coffee, words shape our lives in so many ways. Spoken word poetry is the focusing of the power of our minds to put together thoughts and our bodies to breath wind over cords of stretched flesh manifesting ideas and images in this swirl of vibrations we call reality. Inside each of us, our legacy as shapers of sound is bursting to be free. In this workshop, we will focus on freeing the poetry in our hearts through discussion and exercises designed to kick start creative flow. We will also be discussing some of the subtleties of performing poetry for audiences. Bring paper, pen, and your voice.
Travis Bowman:
Travis Bowman is a writer whose art is born of traveling and spirituality. A former West Point cadet who now walks the path of the artist, sufi, and shaman, Travis's work is deeply autobiographical, born from the experience of being spiritually bewildered in this world. He has lived in Jamaica Plain, MA for the past year and a half, the longest he's been in one place since leaving home at 18. He is currently working on a collection of modern myths and will be attending the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Fall of 2009. He received his Reiki attunement at the first Forestdance, has studied healing techniques from various disciplines and has poured water in regular sweatlodge ceremonies.
